Bake-In

Bake In FundraiserSix weeks before Christmas, we started taking orders for our bake sale. We made fudge, Christmas cookies, truffles, peanut butter cookies, and chocolate covered pretzels. We took orders for about three weeks from both our church and neighborhoods. We had a bake-in (a lock-in where we baked all night) the weekend before Christmas. The kids made everything (with a little help from some adults). We then delivered everything the next two days. The cookies and candy turned out great. We made $1500 and are a church of under 200. We set the prices to low. We only charged $2 for a dozen cookies. I would suggest raising the prices and cutting the choices some. It was a great idea that made us a ton of money towards our summer mission trip.

Sporting Events Concessions

There’s a lot of money to be made selling food & drinks at college and professional sporting events. We live near the University of Illinois, and this year our teen-youth group will be walking through the crowd selling soda and food (no alcohol) during Illini and Bears football games. We will get a percentage of what our team sells. The concession director also gave us the option of preparing food if we didn’t want to walk through the crowd.

If you sign up early enough you can get an actual concession stand. One Christian school in the area was said to have made $26,000 in sales by working 6 games! (This may not be an accurate figure, it’s just what I heard). This is a great fundraiser if you have a small church like ours, because our church can’t financially support our group.

Rockathon Fundraiser

RockathonThis fundraiser is a 24 hour event. Each participant signs up sponsors for every hour he/she rocks on a rocking chair.

Rules:

  1. Everyone provides their own chair.
  2. Each participant must rock for at least 4 hours in succession.
  3. Time breaks only allowed for trips to the bathroom.
  4. The chair must be moving at all times.

Hold the event in a large room and provide movies/TV, tape recorders for music, Coke, cookies, juice, etc. Have supporters to help keep people awake and moving. Pizza and other stuff for meals should be provided by church members if possible.

Keep track of times and money raised and announce it to kids as they go along to help motivate them.

Even More Rockathon Ideas

We have quite a small church family and we were building a wheelchair ramp. The ramp cost a lot of money, money we were having trouble raising. Three of us got together and planned a rock-a-thon that included anyone in the church who wished to participate. We had ages seven to seventy+ rocking. These are a few ideas we used during the 24 hour rock:

  1. We had TONS of prizes donated and everyone went home with something.
  2. We had food donated too, which kept the costs at close to nothing.
  3. We had a movie going almost all the time for entertainment.
  4. We had an open house for anyone who wanted to come and see what we were up to. This raised a lot of money also through our donation box.
  5. We had rockercize which was a great way to keep us moving while we rocked.
  6. We played Bingo with lots of great prizes.
  7. We had crafts and thank you cards to make for our sponsors

It took a lot of work, but everyone loved it and wants to have one again this year, even though our new ramp is paid for. One important thing was that we had a clean up crew come in the next day so we didn’t have to worry about that at all. Our small church family raised over eleven hundred dollars and there were only about twenty people rocking. We were really happy with the results. Happy rocking!!!
