Bake-In
Six weeks before Christmas, we started taking orders for our bake sale. We made fudge, Christmas cookies, truffles, peanut butter cookies, and chocolate covered pretzels. We took orders for about three weeks from both our church and neighborhoods. We had a bake-in (a lock-in where we baked all night) the weekend before Christmas. The kids made everything (with a little help from some adults). We then delivered everything the next two days. The cookies and candy turned out great. We made $1500 and are a church of under 200. We set the prices to low. We only charged $2 for a dozen cookies. I would suggest raising the prices and cutting the choices some. It was a great idea that made us a ton of money towards our summer mission trip.

Tip: Dinners - From Ordinary to Extraordinary!

If you’re hosting a fundraising dinner, take it to the next level and make it extra special!
Here are some ideas:
- Make sure you have people opening doors for guests arriving and leaving. Don’t let anyone leave without a “Thank-You!”
- Provide a complimentary coat-check room. It’s fun and may bring in an extra couple of bucks in tips at the end of the night.
- Have someone fill the role of maître d’ and provide hosts/hostesses to escort people to their seats.
- Go with candlelight and low level lighting.
- Play classical music or jazz in the background for some delightful ambiance.
- Hosting a spaghetti dinner? Have some fun and go with an all-out Italian theme, speaking in over-the-top Italian accents and fake mustaches for all staff. Make it a playful caricature… ensure that you don’t offend any of your guests.
- Don’t overlook the details… nicely folded napkins, mints, flowers on tables (that guests can take home), waiters floating around refilling glasses, etc.
- Fun for the kids: learn how to make some basic balloon animals and travel around the room making them for the kids attending.
Sporting Events Concessions
There’s a lot of money to be made selling food & drinks at college and professional sporting events. We live near the University of Illinois, and this year our teen-youth group will be walking through the crowd selling soda and food (no alcohol) during Illini and Bears football games. We will get a percentage of what our team sells. The concession director also gave us the option of preparing food if we didn’t want to walk through the crowd.
If you sign up early enough you can get an actual concession stand. One Christian school in the area was said to have made $26,000 in sales by working 6 games! (This may not be an accurate figure, it’s just what I heard). This is a great fundraiser if you have a small church like ours, because our church can’t financially support our group.
